Leather: Slaves to Fashion

You must log in to watch this program.
Category: Current Affairs, Fashion
Duration: 1 x 52’
Production year: 2013

Synopsis

Shoes, sofas, jackets, purses,… have been trendy for a few years now. Leather has become more accessible and its prices are becoming increasingly affordable for an obvious reason: in order to bypass European regulations, manufacturers chose to relocate their production in countries where the workforce was at a lower-cost. Child labour, massive chemical pollution, mortality rate multiplied by 300, professional diseases affecting 90% of the workforce: some Indian and Bangladeshi cities pay the price for working at one of the most toxic industries on this planet.
