What happens to old and expired supermarket food?

Category: Current Affairs, Wildlife, Nature & Environment
Duration: 1x52’
Production year: 2017

Synopsis

1,4 billion tons of food are wasted or thrown away each year. 2.3 million come from large-scale distribution. To combat this phenomenon in France, French regulation has changed. Since February 2017, the law prohibits the supermarkets to throw away unsold food and requires them to give or recycle food. Thus, obsolete products become a new business. How supermarkets manage their unsold food products? To whom would the outdated products market serve? What are the limitations of this promising market?
